PITCH a man who fences magical relics to the rich and wealthy, when he's not getting himself into trouble βΈ» a man with physical and magical scars from the loss of a lover; and the sins he committed to try to bring him back

your eyes are broken bottles / and I'm afraid to ask / and all your wrath and cutting beauty / you're poison in the pretty glass

SETTING urban fantasy, london-based, a modern world with vampires and werewolves and angels and demons and anything supernatural you can imagine

AESTHETIC worn leather jackets / moonlight through the window of an empty storefront / broken feathers and black ink / an easy smile with nothing beneath it / a mug left in the sink for too long / grasping claws underneath skin / crowded london streets lit by lampposts

LIKES

- scamming rich people
- takeout and black coffee
- being a magic nerd
- old books
- quiet thursday afternoons

DISLIKES

- dog-earing book pages
- wastefulness
- needless deaths
- hot weather, ugh
- the countryside

APPEARANCE grayson fletcher is a tall man of medium build, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. his hair is shoulder-length, typically messy, and dirty blond, while his skin is fair, and his eyes are green. on any average day, he presents as perfectly human βΈ» as long as he is fully clothed.

beneath his habitual long jackets are a pair of feathered wings, their feathers mainly white with bronze and copper shades at the bottom half of the wings, and white speckles. he keeps these contained in a brace built specifically to mash them flat against his back and hide under a jacket. on his arms and back are seemingly full sleeve tattoos, but they shift and warp when they're not being perceived; images of demons and angels, vampires and werewolves, all largely black and white with some red accents, all seemingly in torment.

BACKGROUND grayson was born into a relatively ordinary family in camden, london, to parents chelsea and john. so, too, was his school life relatively ordinary. it was only in his late teens that he started to become aware of the magical underground of london, introduced to it by way of a short-term boyfriend with connections to the witch scene. grayson immediately fell in love with the supernatural underground βΈ» how mysterious it was, how dangerous it was βΈ» and then, almost as quickly, fell in love with a werewolf, lucas

grayson and lucas had a whirlwind romance, got married quickly, and opened up a magic store together in camden town. it was one part tourist schlock, one part genuine magical items, and grayson loved it. it brought in just enough money for them to live somewhat comfortably in the flat above the shop, and for a while, their lives were relatively idyllic

until lucas died in a werewolf territory dispute, and grayson's entire world fell apart

armed with the knowledge he had been collecting, and the handful of rare relics they had come across while crate diving and antiquing, grayson hatched a plan. he would resurrect lucas. though he had absolutely no magical power of his own, that could be fixed: he would take magic from others. a rite in a dusty journal bound with dragon skin had every step he needed to consume magical entities and feed their power into his own soul. desperate, he did everything it called for

he started small. goblins and leprechauns, summoned and then consumed. worked his way up to black dogs and phoenixes. and then even greater entities, vampires that had killed hundreds of humans and werewolves who rampaged on a full moon. the foreign magic, badly grafted onto grayson's soul, started to drive him mad: he started plucking demons from hell to consume, and then, finally, an angel. once he had the power he needed, grayson recited the resurrection spell βΈ» but lucas came back wrong. tainted by the dark spell, lucas was a mere shadow of himself, a ravenous entity with a taste for human flesh, and no soul whatsoever. he killed four people before lucas realized what he had to do; and put lucas back in the ground

the aftermath of the consumption of dozens of creatures had changed grayson over the course of doing so, and at the very end, left him with a pair of stolen angel wings affixed to his back. wings that he is so ashamed of, he built a leather and metal brace to confine and restrict them flat to his back so they can be hidden underneath a long jacket. living tattoos mark his arms and back, the captured essence of the entities he ate

with the shop closed (as he couldn't bear to open it again without lucas), grayson turned to another method of making money: finding and fencing magical relics to the rich and wealthy. he doesn't give them anything that contains real, dangerous power βΈ» just little trinkets that they nonetheless pay a handsome fee for, things he talks up and embellishes. he's good at the lie; good at dressing up to fit in, and smiling emptily, and giving promises. while he has largely come to terms with lucas' death, these days, the stolen magic corrupting his soul has grayson convinced that he's beyond saving

PERSONALITY grayson is a largely reserved person, doesn't much like talking about himself, and tends to view everything through a business lens as a result of throwing himself too fully into his new job. he has two modes: fence mode, where he dresses well and talks slick and has a dimpled smile that would get anybody to buy anything from him, and exhaustion mode, where he's not wearing the business mask and just slouches around doing nothing in his flat (occasionally broken up by the chaos of various supernatural things trying to kill him for his stolen magic)

where once he was optimistic and passionate, he is now cool and quiet, preferring to watch from the sidelines rather than get involved if he has to. any friends he once had, he has distanced himself from. his flat is empty and lifeless, and that suits him just fine

he's a big magic nerd at heart, and secretly loves collecting any and all tidbits about magic. this has been tainted somewhat by lucas' death, but he's trying to find the joy in it again. he's very much a city boy, and loves crowds and noise and the way he can climb up to his rooftop and look across london's roofs. he's merely okay with traveling, which he needs to do a lot for his job

needless to say, he can obsessive to the extreme, to the point of self-destruction

IMPRESSIONS
VISUAL if encountered when off the clock: messy dirty blond hair, dark circles underneath green eyes, and a careworn mouth. glimpses of a tattoo peeking out from his sleeves. if he's doing a business deal, he's neat and tidy, he stands straighter, his gestures are smooth and charming, his smile secretive but empty

ATTIRE simple, functional clothing, with a battered black leather jacket he favours, and a long overcoat. otherwise; sleek dark suits with black shirts and black ties, entirely monochrome

DEMEANOUR grayson is either exhausted and kinda grouchy, or charming and eloquent. it depends entirely on when you encounter him. he's prone to fidgeting, to pulling his sleeves down to cover his wrists, and to shifting his shoulders like they hurt

AURAL curiously soft-spoken, a voice made husky from too many sleepless nights

OLFACTORY old paper and ink, candle wax, leather, the burning ozone of magic made bitter by corruption

PERSEUS & HERMES:
Why would anyone love a monster? βΈ»βΈ» Who are you to decide who is worthy of love?

ABILITIES
MINOR HEALING as a result of having stolen and consumed an angel's essence, grayson can heal minor wounds, and stabilize larger ones

MINOR HELLFIRE after consuming the essence of multiple demons, grayson can summon small bouts of hellfire

RAW MAGIC POWER grayson has a considerable amount of magic potential, but large parts of it are corrupted and almost impossible to use. he can use some small spells here and there, but anything bigger drains him enormously

CONSUMPTION SIDE-EFFECTS after having eaten so many supernatural creatures, grayson occasionally suffers the side-effects of many different creatures. rage on the full moon, or a craving for blood, or a compulsion to haunt. these can strike whenever and wherever, though he's largely good at keeping them under control
